Are All Hearing Devices the Same?

Are all hearing devices the same?

No. Hearing aids are not all the same. There are many different brands and some brands are better than others depending on the type of hearing loss you have. It is important to go to a Doctor of Audiology who works with many hearing aid manufacturers and not just one. If a business only works with one manufacturer, they are usually obligated to sell only that product, which is not in best interest of the patient.

Some hearing centers are partially funded by a single hearing aid manufacturer, while others are committed to national buying affiliates. These contracts may lead to bigger profits for a particular business, but it means fewer and potentially sub-standard options for patients. Other hearing centers private label their hearing aids, which means they are the only business that is able to make adjustments to the hearing devices and they lock the devices to outside professionals. If you end up in a private labeled hearing device and aren’t happy with the care you are receiving, you may not be able to go to a different professional to have them fix your problem. If the hearing instrument doesn’t have a brand name on it, it is a private labeled and locked hearing aid. Brand name hearing aids include Starkey, Siemens, Widex, Oticon, Unitron, Phonak, and ReSound. If you are unsure, do your research before purchasing the device.
