FAQs

We have answers to your most pressing questions about Med-El hearing technology. Learn more about our cochlear implant options and how you can use them to improve your quality of life.

How Long Do Med-El Cochlear Implants Last?

Med-El follows the cumulative survival rate (CSR) standard for measuring the lifespan of your cochlear implants. Depending on the model you get, your implants may last from 3 to 20 years. All of our models have CSRs of 95 to 99% within these time frames, with most of them ranging between 99.0% and 99.8%.

How to Pair Med-El Processors With Accessories or Smartphones?

One of the biggest advantages of Med-El cochlear implants is their ability to connect with other technology. Remote controls are the preferred method of audio control for many of our community members. The remotes come pre-paired to your implant.

Some implant models have smartphone apps that give you digital access to your implant settings at any time. Follow the instructions on the app or in the instruction manual to connect them.

Med-El also offers waterproof covers and other accessories to keep your implant safe and functional.

How to Adjust Settings on Med-El Audio Processors?

You can connect your audio processor to a smartphone app or remote control to adjust your settings. Some Med-El processors adjust based on your detected surroundings to give you a seamless experience. Check your model’s instruction manual for more information.

How Often Should You Charge Med-El Rechargeable Processors?

Some Med-El processors offer wireless charging. Each battery life ranges from 24 to 60 hours of continuous listening. Some models even have on-the-go charging capabilities.

Can Med-El Processors Be Used During Sports or Swimming?

Yes! Med-El audio processors are designed to be water-resistant so they can combat fluids like sweat. For more water-intensive conditions like swimming, you can use waterproof covers to keep your processor safe.

How Often Do Med-El Implants Need Maintenance or Cleaning?

We recommend wiping down the external part of your implant with a dry cloth daily. This keeps dirt, sweat, and debris from affecting its performance. Perform a deeper clean on the microphone cover and corners of the external device at least once a week. Cochlear implant cleaning kits help with this regular maintenance.
